Guides

Fit your tracker. Pair your phone. Get ready to go.

Use this guide to attach your Find My Pet tracker to your pet’s collar and connect it to Apple Find My on iPhone or Google Find Hub on Android.

Your collar, your choice. Buy one of our collars or use your pet’s existing collar up to 5 mm thick. The tracker and collars are sold separately unless you choose a bundle.

Before you start

  • Have your tracker, tracker holder, mounting screws, small removable backing plate (alignment guide), a suitable screwdriver, collar and phone beside you. Set up the tracker while the collar is off your pet.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and location services, connect your phone to the internet, and sign in to your Apple or Google account.
  • Use the latest software and app updates available for your phone.
  • Choose one platform: the tracker links to one account at a time. It does not pair to Apple and Google simultaneously.
  • Keep the quick start card supplied with your tracker handy for model-specific instructions.

1. Fit the tracker to the collar

Four-step fitting guide: seat the tracker flush in the recessed holder, align the slotted backing plate, screw through the collar into the holder, then lift the plate from its centre to pop it free.

The holder secures the tracker on the outside of the collar. The screws go from the inside, through the collar and into the holder. The tracker is held snugly between the collar and the holder; the screws do not go into the tracker itself.

The small backing plate is a temporary alignment guide. It helps position the screws so they line up with the holder on the other side of the collar. Remove this plate after screwing the holder into place; it is not part of the finished attachment.

  1. Check the collar. Take the collar off your pet. Use one of ours or your own collar up to 5 mm thick. Choose a flat section away from the buckle, adjustment slider and lead attachment.
  2. Position the tracker and holder. Seat the tracker in the holder and place the assembly against the outside of the collar, with the tracker between the collar and the holder. Hold the parts together in your chosen position.
  3. Line up the backing plate. Place the small backing plate on the inside of the collar, opposite the holder. Use its screw locations to align the mounting screws with the fixing points in the holder on the other side.
  4. Screw through the collar into the holder. Using the backing plate as a guide, drive the mounting screws from the inside through the collar fabric and into the holder. Start both screws before tightening them evenly. Tighten until the holder holds the tracker snugly against the collar, without overtightening. Fitting leaves holes in the collar.
  5. Remove the temporary backing plate. Once the screws are in place and the holder is secured, lift the centre of the small alignment plate with a fingertip to pop it free. The open-ended slots release from around the screws. The screws and holder stay in place, with the tracker held between the collar and holder.
  6. Check the attachment. Give the holder a gentle tug and check that the tracker cannot slip out. Check that the screw heads sit neatly against the inside of the collar, with no sharp points exposed. Keep the buckle and any breakaway mechanism clear.
  7. Pair your phone. Follow the iPhone or Android steps below before putting the collar back on your pet.
  8. Check the fit on your pet. Adjust the collar so you can comfortably slide two fingers underneath. Check that the tracker and holder sit comfortably and do not rub. Recheck the fit and attachment regularly.

For cats, use a suitable breakaway collar and make sure the tracker attachment does not prevent it from releasing.

Pairing guide: turn on Bluetooth and location, hold the tracker button for 3 seconds, then use Find My on iPhone or Fast Pair and Find Hub on Android. One account at a time.

2. Pair with iPhone

  1. Keep the tracker close to your unlocked iPhone. Press and hold the tracker’s button for 3 seconds to start setup.
  2. Open Find My and select Items.
  3. Tap +, then Add Other Item. The wording may vary with your iOS version.
  4. When the tracker appears, tap Connect. Give it a recognisable name, such as your pet’s name, and choose an emoji.
  5. Follow the prompts to register it to your Apple Account and finish setup.
  6. Check that the tracker appears in your Items list before fitting the collar to your pet.

For Apple’s current instructions, see adding a supported item in Find My.

3. Pair with Android

  1. Install or update Google Find Hub from Google Play and sign in to your Google account.
  2. Keep the tracker close to your unlocked phone with Bluetooth and location turned on.
  3. Press and hold the tracker’s button for 3 seconds to start setup.
  4. Look for the Fast Pair setup prompt on your phone. Tap it and follow the instructions to connect the tracker.
  5. After pairing, open Find Hub using the same Google account. Tracker tags are added automatically after successful pairing.
  6. Select the tracker and check that it appears in the app before fitting the collar to your pet.

Phone menus vary. See Google’s Find Hub setup instructions for current guidance. Google advises against using tracker tags to track pets; keep the location limitations below in mind.

4. Check the location

Open Find My or Find Hub and select your tracker to view its available location. Check the time of the last update before using directions to that location.

Location updates depend on nearby compatible phones. This is a network-based tracker, not a guaranteed live GPS feed. Updates may be delayed or unavailable, especially in quiet or remote areas. A map pin shows the tracker’s reported location, which may differ from where your pet is now.

Keep your pet’s microchip and ID details up to date, and continue normal supervision.

Having trouble?

The tracker does not appear during setup

  • Move it close to your phone and check Bluetooth, location and internet access.
  • Make sure you are using the correct app and account, then restart your phone and try the setup steps again.
  • On Android, check that nearby-device scanning is enabled if your phone offers that setting.
  • If it was paired before, check the previous account. It may need to be removed from that account before it can be added again.
  • For a reset or a switch between iPhone and Android, follow the supplied quick start card or contact us for the correct sequence.

There is no beep

Your tracker is shipped with its speaker disabled. Use the app’s confirmation to check pairing; do not rely on a sound or the Play Sound feature.

The location has not updated

Check the last-seen time, your phone’s internet connection and any battery information shown in the app. A new location depends on the tracker being detected by a compatible device nearby.

Battery and care

The tracker uses a replaceable CR2032 battery, with around one year of battery life depending on use. Follow the supplied instructions when replacing it and fully secure the battery cover before use. Keep spare and used coin batteries away from children and pets.
